June 3, 2011 6:00 PM @ Silver Spring Civic Center Save the Date! Join Honorary Chair Barbara Harrison of NBC4 and the National Center for Children and Families for an evening of fine art, unique items in our signature "Gifts from the Soul" silent auction, wine, and an elegant tasting of hors de'oeuvres from local 5-star restaurants. This year, we're presenting two programs: the Inaugural Youth Fair, "Gifted, Artistic and Under 21", as well as the Masters Art Auction, "Masterful and Gifted". With entertainment, food "tastings", unique art in a variety of mediums, and some of our region's most dedicated partners, it's sure to bring the community together all to benefit the multiple programs providing services to NCCF clients. More Information: On April 16, 1862 President Abraham Lincoln signed the DC Compensated Emancipation Act abolishing slavery in the District of Columbia. The act, passed nine months before the Emancipation Proclamation, made 3,100 District residents the “First Freed” by the federal government.Commemorate this occasion at DC I AM: An Emancipation Day Celebration, a festival blending history, community, and the arts.
